Surprising results from Facebook video tests.

For some time now, we’ve wanted to test the limits of uploading video to Facebook.  We’ve learned some really interesting things that we wanted to share with our followers.  The test clip used was pretty challenging for any streaming video site.  It has fast motion, lots of bright spots and plenty of dark, shady areas.  The camera used to record the footage was a Panasonic HVX-200 shooting 1080P DVCPRO50HD Codec (P2, 4:2:2).  The clips were edited in Final Cut Pro in a native HD timeline and two Quicktime files were exported.  One...

Tips for Production Assistants

Breaking into the world of production can be tricky but one of the best ways is to start as a PA (production assistant). Historically, the smaller the crew the more responsibility you’ll have but that’s not always the case. You can find yourself on high budget film shoots or small corporate videos. No matter what the gig, here are some tips on what it takes to be a great PA. Listen: Probably the number one skill of any crew member is the ability to listen. Seems simple but if a producer only has to say things once, it makes their job much...

Google uses video to recruit

We frequently hear companies complain that it’s hard to find good people.  The fact is good people want to work for great companies.  So let’s assume you have a great company but it just doesn’t sound credible coming from you, the employer.  There’s probably no better place to hear the truth than from actual employees.  Google is known for their perks but it’s not necessarily the perks that wins people over, it’s the people.  The employee testimonial video below truly shows why Google is so great and why it...

Guinness World Record Success

Back in 2010, we got a call about building a custom camera system for a world record attempt, crossing America in a wheelchair.  The requirements were pretty extreme but as we learned more about the person and the purpose, we couldn’t say no. We had to build something that: –    Continuously record for up to eight hours –    Was water resistant –    Didn’t interfere with the wheelchair operation or life support system –    Could be removed and secured with ease –    Was sturdy enough for rough terrain...

Video Helicopter services

We saw lots of great equipment at the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters trade show.  One of our favorite products wasn’t a camera or lens, it was a helicopter.  We couldn’t resist it and ended up buying one. The capabilities and range are pretty astounding.  Just like a real helicopter, you have rudder, aileron, elevator and throttle control. It has a one mile flight radius and it can hit an altitude of 2,000 feet.  The system employs two cameras, one for navigation and the other for HD video capture.  What we didn’t consider was...

Video Tip: Working with bad video

Technology keeps coming up with ways consumers and businesses can record their own video. Everything from the mighty Flip-type units to Smartphones now allow people to capture events with the push of a button. When used properly, these tiny cameras can yield great results. Unfortunately this isn’t always the case. We’re often presented with shaky, blurry, noisy footage that clients want us to use in productions. There’s a big misconception that video post production houses have a magic setting that can fix everything from...
